Community listening service listener
The community listening service offers experienced listeners the opportunity to provide confidential listening appointments to patients in primary care. Training and supervision are provided. Further information

Conversation volunteer / ward visitor
Volunteers will offer non clinical support within the ward/unit environment with the overall aim to enhance the patient’s journey and provide a sense of wellbeing. The main task will be chatting and providing companionship.

Garden volunteer
Volunteers carry out light tasks and maintenance within the gardens and green areas for the enjoyment of our patients, visitors and staff.

Meaningful activities volunteer
Volunteers will engage with patients through meaningful activities; such as arts and crafts, games and puzzles, and baking. In doing so volunteers will minimise patient’s stress and distress and encourage positive communication and assist in maintaining patient’s independence.

Meet and greet
Volunteers meet and greet patients, staff and visitors at entrance areas and guide to wards, departments and clinics.

Music volunteer
Volunteers will provide music in a group setting in the ward/area sitting room. This can include singing and or playing musical instruments. Encouraging patients and visitors to participate and have an involvement using voice or percussion instruments.

Patient experience volunteer
The volunteer will visit wards and departments to capture the ‘Individual Patient Experience’ and ‘Patient Stories’ using an ipad or paper questionnaires.

Pets as therapy
Volunteers visit patients with a dog which has been screened and registered by Canine Concern as a therapy.

Play volunteer
Volunteers provide, promote and encourage play activities with our young patients.

Simulated patient volunteer
To assist in staff and student training sessions; participating within directed role play as a 'patient' within healthcare based scenarios.

Ward helper
Volunteers will assist in the preparation and serving of refreshments to patients. Socially interacting and befriending patients within the ward and assisting staff in providing a welcoming atmosphere for patients and visitors.

* Acute hospitals include Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy and Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline. Community Hospitals include Glenrothes Hospital, Adamson Hospital, Cupar, Cameron Hospital, Leven and St Andrews Hospital.
Driving Volunteer
In collaboration with NHS FIFE, Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) has been commissioned to provide essential transport for patients attending regular lifesaving kidney dialysis treatment at either Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy or St Andrews Community Hospital. RVS URGENTLY need volunteer drivers with their own cars to provide this much valued service. You will receive a mileage allowance of 45p per mile. As a volunteer you will offer a friendly journey, supporting people to and from their home and destination. You'll work both on your own and with others, building relationships with the people you drive for.
