NHS Fife recognises that all children and young people have a right to be protected and that all adults have a responsibility to protect them from harm. Child protection is a key priority for NHS Fife, and we work collaboratively with our key partners in order to promote children and young people’s wellbeing, welfare and safety. Our partners include:

  • Fife Council Education and Children’s Services
  • Police Scotland
  • The Scottish Children's Reporter Administration

NHS Fife has a Child Protection Service of specialist nurses and medical staff. The team’s role includes supporting medical care and investigations where there are concerns about significant harm, and to provide Fife health staff with support and advice, appropriate training and supervision. Ensuring we have a workforce that feels confident and competent in their role to protect and promote the wellbeing of children and young people is our priority. The team can be contacted via the hospital switchboard.

What to do if you have concerns about a child

As a member of the public, if you are worried about potential child abuse or neglect, you can speak to a health visitor/family nurse, nursery staff, teacher, family doctor, social worker, police officer or the children's reporter.
