The service areas within the Children & Young People's Community Nursing Service include the following:

Community Children's Nurses (CCNs)

The team is part of the wider Children and Young People’s Community Nursing Service. It consists of Community Children’s Nurses, Community Staff Nurses and a Health Care Support Worker, and are a Fife wide service supporting over 160 young people and their families. Find out more here. 

Children and Young People’s ADHD Team

The ADHD Pathway brings together health and education to ensure that all families receive the best possible care from the time that a diagnosis is made, through to the delivery of treatment. Read more on the ADHD Team page.

Education & Homecare teams

Education Team

The Education Team develops and reviews supporting education resources for the delivery of evidence based clinical skills teaching, ensuring education governance processes are adhered to. Referral is to Fife.cypcnseducation@nhs.scot. Please note that completion of a Training Request Form is required prior to any training.

Homecare Team

The Homecare team provides support for children and young people with complex healthcare needs who, without nursing support at home and in the community, would likely be resident in a hospital setting. The Homecare Team supports these children and young people to actively participate in family life and activities outside of school.  They are a flexible service made up of highly trained staff, working with families to provide the support which meets their individual need. This might be by providing overnight care or in some case 24/7 support.

Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC)

The values of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) are embedded across all service areas supporting families by ensuring children and young people can receive the right care, at the right time, from the right people. The aim is to help children and young to grow up feeling loved, safe and respected so that they can realise their full potential.

The values of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) are embedded across all service areas supporting families by ensuring children and young people can receive the right care, at the right time, from the right people. The aim is to help children and young to grow up feeling loved, safe and respected so that they can realise their full potential.

The GIRFEC approach:

  • is child-focused - it ensures the child or young person and their family is at the centre of decision-making and the support is available to them
  • is based on an understanding of the wellbeing of a child in their current situation - it takes into consideration the wider influences on a child or young person and their developmental needs when thinking about their wellbeing, so that the right support can be offered at the right time
  • is based on tackling needs early - it aims to ensure needs are identified as early as possible to avoid bigger concerns or problems developing
  • requires joined-up working - It is about children, young people, parents, and the services they need working together in a co-ordinated approach to meet the specific needs and improve their wellbeing
