FAQS ((Frequently Asked Questions) | Kirkcaldy Health Centre
Why is the Kirkcaldy Health Centre closed?
Kirkcaldy Health Centre and the adjoining Well Pharmacy is closed as SGN Gas workers perform ongoing urgent gas works. It is understood that this is related to issues arising from gas maintenance taking place near the site.
The three GP practices based at the Health Centre are affected and they are -
- Dr Egerton and Partners
- Drs McKenna and Murphy
- Drs Fordyce, Lempke and Parish.
In addition, to ensure emergency gas repairs can be carried out, Whyteman’s Brae is closed between its junctions with Hayfield Road and Chestnut Avenue.
When will the buildings and road re-open?
NHS Fife and Fife Health and Social Care Partnership are working with SGN to establish a date to re-open. We will re-open as soon as is practicable and safe to do so following completion of the urgent gas works.
Updates will be posted to the NHS Fife social media channels.
What about my scheduled appointment?
As a precautionary measure, all pre-arranged appointments have been cancelled and the GP services based out of the centre are running a reduced service, prioritising those with the most urgent need. Your practice will be in touch with you to offer you a new appointment time if you are impacted.
I’m a patient at one of the surgeries affected – how do I contact my Practice?
If you are a patient at one of the above practices and have an urgent need that cannot wait until 5 pm on Thursday 28 March 2024, please call 01592 729250.
If you need non-urgent healthcare visit www.nhsfife.org/rightcare or call NHS 24 on 111. In an emergency always call 999.
After 5 pm on Thursday 28 March 2024 and during the Easter long weekend, Friday 29th March until Monday 1st April 2024, the GP practices will be closed. If you need health care during this time please call NHS 24 on 111. Or in an emergency always call 999.
Where can I access care over the Easter holiday weekend?
All GP Practices across Fife are closing over the Easter long weekend. If you need non-urgent healthcare visit www.nhsfife.org/rightcare or call NHS 24 on 111.
In an emergency always call 999.
What if I run out of medicine?
During the time that the Health Centre is closed and you have an urgent need for medicine, please contact a local community pharmacy who will be able to help you with an emergency supply for most medications.
There are some types of medicine that community pharmacies will not be able to give you an emergency supply of – for example, opioids, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens and anabolic steroids, commonly referred to as Controlled Drugs. If you need these types of medicine, you will need to speak to your Practice directly.
If you are a patient of one of the practices affected by the closure and need this type of medicine or you are unsure, please call 01592 729250.
How do I order my repeat prescription?
During the time that the Health Centre is closed and you have to order a repeat prescription, you can still do so via the online ordering system for your practice. But please note, it will take longer than normal for your prescription to reach your nominated community pharmacy.
You can also contact a local community pharmacy who may be able to help you, if you do not require a Controlled Drug. If you are unsure, please call 01592 729250 to arrange your repeat prescription.
What do I do if I need to contact my midwife?
Anyone wishing to make a routine pregnancy appointment to see their midwife should contact the community midwifery team on 01592 643355 ext 22076.
For any urgent issues please continue to contact the maternity assessment unit at the Victoria Hospital on 01592 643355 ext 29818
