The purpose and design of an orthosis may change over time along with the changing needs of the patient, the orthosis can be designed to do one of the things below:
- Improve your movement or strength
- Help you to do more of your normal activities like walking
- Help to reduce or manage your pain
As part of our treatment plan, we provide a range of orthoses including:
- Footwear
- Insoles
- Ankle foot orthosis
- Ankle braces
- Knee braces
- Compression stocking for DVT patients
- Spinal braces/supports
- Collars
- Upper limb orthosis
Orthoses can be pre-made and may be customised to fit you or may need to be custom made to fit your specific shape if needed.
If you require a custom made device, you may require measurement/ casting/ scanning of specified body part at your initial assessment.
Scans are carried out using portable scanners and are very quick and simple to carry out.
Casts are taken in clinic; they are simply for shape capture and are removed within a few minutes. Orthotists are Allied Health Care Professionals registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), a body which regulates registered clinicians to protect the public.
