Access to services is through referral by a medical or surgical Consultant or via a Health Care Professional (HCP) such as a specialist nurse or Allied Health Professional.
The core service of the department is clinical photography to show a condition, aid diagnosis and to help with teaching. Clinical photography is undertaken regularly for the following specialties; Dermatology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, Orthodontics, Plastic Surgery, Tissue Viability, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Paediatrics, Theatres and a variety of other departments as the need arises. Images can be taken for the following reasons – diagnostic imaging, patient records, legal/medical, teaching & publication, time lapse, clinical audit and for case studies. The department also undertakes teaching/demonstration videos, involvement in clinical trials and simple graphics work where time allows. Clinical photographers take images of patients in our hospital studio, outpatient departments, wards, and theatres. We use conventional, specialist and ophthalmic cameras to produce a variety of professional high-quality images to aid diagnosis, record conditions to be used for teaching or legal reasons (providing consent has been obtained).
Clinical photography staff are on the accredited register with AHCS (Academy of Healthcare Science).
