Occupational therapy provides practical support to empower people to facilitate recovery and overcome barriers preventing them from doing the activities (or occupations) that matter to them. This support increases people's independence and satisfaction in all aspects of life.
Assessment of daily activities such as personal care, transfers and mobility, meal preparation, equipment provision, referrals to community resources, end of life care advice and support.
Occupational Therapists work in clinical teams across the in-patient wards at the Victoria Hospital to provide assessment and treatment to enable patients to return home.
Who can benefit from Occupational Therapy?
We find that in general, people whose abilities have changed as a result of their illness or disability can be helped by Occupational Therapy.
Referrals
Our Occupational Therapy service operates an open referral system across most wards. This means Occupational Therapists will accept referrals through attendance at board rounds, via the telephone or through discussion with the multidisciplinary team.
