If you have a skin problem which you and your GP cannot manage, the Fife Dermatology team of consultants and specialist nurses are here to help. The team provides specialist care for patients with acute and chronic skin conditions.
We carry out routine and urgent assessments and investigation and treatment of all forms of skin disease in adults and children.
The sorts of conditions we deal with include skin cancer and other suspicious skin lesions, eczema and psoriasis to name a few. We are well known for being a friendly, dynamic, forward-thinking department and are committed to looking after you.
We offer routine and urgent assessment, investigation and treatment of all forms of skin disease in adults and children including;
- skin cancer
- atopic eczema
- severe acne
- rosacea
- urticaria (hives)
- psoriasis
- hair disorders
- blistering conditions
We do not see patients with skin growths which are simply a cosmetic concern and do not practice aesthetic medicine (changing the appearance of conditions such as removing moles or smoothening wrinkles).
The department is made up of:
- 8 consultant dermatologists
- 2 GPs with specialist interest
- 2 advanced nurse practitioners
- Our team of dermatology nurses
Our dedicated and highly experienced team spreads across three sites: Queen Margaret Hospital and the Victoria Hospital and is lead by our senior charge nurse.
Between our doctors and nurses we operate over 50 outpatient clinics per week, and see around 10,000 new referrals per year. Our other outpatient services include;
- skin surgery
- phototherapy (ultraviolet light treatment)
- patch testing
- specialist-nurse applied topical therapies/dressings
In addition to our outpatient work, we also look after patients in hospital with skin problems. We are committed to teaching and training with medical students, nursing students and trainee doctors moving through the department. We are also involved in dermatology research, recruiting patients into a number of national and international clinical trials.
Our consultants
Our consultants all have a wealth of experience in general dermatology as well as having areas of particular interest. We have great working relationships with other hospital departments including plastic surgery, oromaxillofacial surgery, ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat), paediatrics and rheumatology and also strong links with dermatology departments in both Lothian and Tayside.
